Len Trumble Competition
There are six digital image competitions during the camera club season.
Entries are due at the first meeting in September, October, November,
January, February, and March.
All members must submit their digital images using the “Online Digital Entry” system. See exception below for members without an Internet connection.
The main function of the competition is to give the club members an
opportunity to have their images scored by advanced photographers.
The member achieving the highest total points for their entries during
the year will receive the Len
Trumble Memorial Award Certificate.
Image competition scores will also be used to determine advancement
from one division to the next.
Helen D’Amico Memorial Competition
This competition is a sub competition within the Len Trumble
Competition. The award was created to give Bronze members there
own competition.
For Bronze members
only, competition scores will be used to determine the
winner of the Helen
D’Amico Award Certificate, given to the Bronze member
achieving the highest total points for their entries during the year.
The award will be presented annually at the Annual Banquet of the
Welland Camera Club.
| NOTE: |
Any
Bronze member who receives six – twenty-two (22) point awards
by December and is offered the opportunity to advance to the Silver
level will NOT be eligible for this award whether they take advantage
of the offer to move to Silver division or not. |
Image competition scores will also be used to determine advancement
from one division to the next.
Bronze
and Silver
members achieving the requirement to move up a level by
Christmas will be given the option.”
Categories
The Len Trumble Competition
is a chance for members to show their best images and receive a score
from a variety of judges. To that extent any member in good standing is
invited to submit four (4) images each month to be judged and scored.
The
subject matter of the images is "open" to any category that the member
chooses, however, there are a number of suggested categories that many
senior members feel will help the newer members explore the possibility
of photographic excellence as well as creative self-expression. These
categories are suggestions, not compulsory, however, it never hurts to
broaden one's horizons.
Finally, members that submit nature
images should adhere to the club's nature guidelines to insure
elegibilty with the many outside competitions the Welland Camera Club
enters.
|
Rules:
- Members may submit four
entries each month of their choice.
- First time competitors of the Len Trumble\
Helen D’Amico Memorial Competition may make entries for all the missed
months of the current year up until Christmas. This is the only time that this exception
is made since new members may be unfamiliar with the monthly
competitions.
(These entries are to be submitted directly to the Competitions Director by email by the submission date for the coming month or on CD (or USB drive) by the meeting prior to the submission date for the coming month.)
- The maker of the image must be a member of
good standing of the Welland Camera Club.
- All the entries will be shown at the next
club meeting after having been judged. Titles and points awarded will
be announced. In the case of an award winning entry, the maker’s name
will be announced and the maker will receive a ribbon.
- The
format of the fourth Wednesday of the month meeting will be that all
the images submitted will be shown and the relevant scores and ribbons
announced. After a break all the images selected to be critiqued (see
rule 12.) will be shown and the critiques announced.
- Each competition is judged by an outside-the-club judge for
all members. The judges will be asked only to score each
image. No comments from them will be required. Each entry can be awarded a maximum of 30
points.
15 to 17 points – DEFICIENT 18 to 23 points –
AVERAGE 24 to 29 points – ABOVE AVERAGE 30 points
– EXCEPTIONAL
- For a member to receive a ribbon, their image must receive the
following points;
Bronze Division (Beginners) – 20 points or
more Silver Division (Intermediate) – 22 points or more Gold
Division (Advanced) – 24 points or
more Diamond Division (Expert) – 26
points or more
- Images taken at a club workshop
where someone else has created the setup, lighting, etc. may not be
entered into club competitions. Additionally, if an image is manipulated
in the darkroom or digitally by an individual other than the person
making the submission, that image may not be entered into club
competitions.
- Judging images is a subjective
process and not all entries receive recognition. If the maker feels the
judges erred in not giving a score sufficient to qualify for
recognition, the member may reenter the image in a subsequent monthly
competition.
- An entry that has earned recognition
(received a ribbon) in a monthly competition may not be reentered in
subsequent monthly competitions. It can, however, be used in any other
competition.
(It is requested that a “near duplicate” of a highly scored
image not be entered again in a monthly competition.)
- It is wise
for members to develop a system of record keeping to know what entries
have been entered into club competitions and how they scored.
- A member may submit one image to be
critiqued each month the Len Trumble competition is run. Entrants must use the “Online Digital Entry” system to make submissions. See exception below for members without an Internet connection.
- The critiques each month will be completed by
senior members of the Welland Camera Club.
| NOTE: | In
our club competitions, a winning entry may NOT be reentered in the same
competition at a later date. An image that did not receive recognition
(a ribbon) may be reworked and submitted at a later time.
In our competitions with other
clubs, an image may NOT be reentered.
| | NOTE: | Up-to-date records will avoid an embarrassing situation. |
