Digital Competition EntryIn
order to speed up the handling of digital images in the various
club digital competitions a standard entry form has been
developed.
It greatly increases the work of those preparing the competitions if they must hunt for the required
information or edit the provided information. All entries need to follow
the same format when preparing the text entry file in order for those working on the competition to do
their job in a timely manner.
Entries not following this format may be
rejected if there may not be sufficient time to resolve issues. The
text entry file provides information about the participant, the
competition, and the files being entered. If you are using email
to make an entry, the easiest way to send this information is embedded
in the body of the email. A copy of a blank entry form can be
downloaded here.
Resizing and Renaming Digital ImagesSo
your entry will be properly displayed for judging, the image file must
not be any wider than 1024 pixels and must not be any taller than 768
pixels. Images submitted larger than these dimensions will be resized
down to meet the requirements for club competitions. Images smaller than these dimensions
WILL NOT be resized. Small images will be judged as presented.
Resizing
can be detrimental to how the image is displayed for judging. Each
participant should do their own resizing before submission to ensure the image is displayed and judged as they intended. The Competitions Director will not be responsible for changes in the image appearance due
to resizing.
If you are going to apply sharpening to a submitted
image, this process should be done AFTER the image has been resized.
The effects of sharpening can be distorted if the image is resized
after sharpening is applied.
All submitted digital files MUST be renamed in order for the Competitions Director to find indiviual files among the many entries. The naming format is;
• Three letters (preferably initials of the participant's name).
(Please use the same 3 letters all year.)
• Folow the three letters by the underscore character ("_").
• Follow the underscore character with a "short" filename
sufficient to identify your entry from others you may be entering.
(Long elaborate file names are difficult to manage.)
An example of a proper filename is;
abc_filename
Accompanying Text Entry DocumentAn "entry document" MUST accompany all digital competition entries. This is a simple text format document that provides the
needed information necessary for the Competitions Director to manage the competition.
Please use the Windows program Notepad (or a similar program on a MAC computer) to prepare your entry document. Or you may also use whatever word processor you are
familiar with to prepare the document, but please save the file as a text
(.txt) document by using the "Save as" option on most
programs and picking "Text document" for file type.
This will save a lot of time by not having to do file conversions. A
standard template that meets the needs for digital entries is below.
Copy and paste this into Notepad (or other word processor that you
might use).
NOTE: Please DO NOT use any "tabs" to lineup text as this causes problems once received by the Competitions Director.
